No visit to Sun Country on the Murray is complete without a trip to the bustling regional hub of Numurkah.
Despite the active street life of this busy rural community, the town exudes a relaxed, friendly vibe. Explore the pretty main street on foot; you’ll be greeted with smiling faces as you pass speciality shops, well-stocked eateries, as well as charming gardens, wide open spaces and historical buildings.
Being the centre of a thriving agricultural area, Numurkah is a food lovers’ paradise. On offer are a range of locally made wines, handmade cheeses, cold pressed olive oil, as well as organic honey and almonds. The makers of the Farm Gate Trail will be happy to give you a taste and a tour around their farms and chat about the processes involved.
Nestled in the many smaller towns that surround Numurkah, you will find antiques and bric-a-brac, great country pubs and authentic country bakeries. You may even spot a koala, kangaroo or rare bird as you travel the surrounding wetlands and forests such as the Kinnaird’s Wetlands.
Days can disappear as you indulge in the districts produce. Wander around the town’s lakes, creeks and wetlands, throw in a line, or you can simply enjoy a round of golf, bowls or tennis in the sunshine.

ABOUT US
Numurkah Love our Lifestyle is a not-for-profit incorporated association.
Our aim is to unite the retail, tourism, service and event experiences available to visitors within the district. From this diverse pool of information, Numurkah Love Our Lifestyle will produce a unified message to market Numurkah to potential visitors.
Numurkah Love Our Lifestyle oversees the visitor information centre, publishes a town map pad and undertakes a variety of marketing initiatives each year.
As an organisation, Numurkah Love Our Lifestyle is run by a Board of representatives which is made up of business members. Numurkah and District Tourism has approximately 50 members.
THE SILO ART TRAIL
The Silo Art Trail is Australia’s largest outdoor gallery. The trail stretches over 200 kilometres.
The trail recognises and celebrates the region’s people through a series of large-scale mural portraits painted onto grain silos, many of which date back to the 1930s.
The project saw a team of renowned artists from Australia and across the world visit the region, meet the locals and transform each grain silo into an epic work of art; each one telling a unique story about the host town.

CACTUS COUNTRY
Located at 4986 Murray Valley Highway, Strathmerton (22 km north of Numurkah) this unusual attraction covers 4 ha (10 acres), has been operating for over 25 years.
It is recognised as Australia's largest cactus garden with literally thousands of cactus plants.
Cactus Country is open seven days a week from 9.00 am - 5.00 pm.
FARM GATE TRAIL
This trail is made up of a cooperative group of primary producers who provide their product direct from its source – the farm.
‘Produce without pretence’ – each farm gate offers a completely different experience. All are working farms and the owners are heavily involved in all stages of harvest, production and sales. Many are iconic characters with great stories to tell, so make sure you take the time to soak up the atmosphere and discover the gems of Sun Country on the Murray.
The Farm Gate Trail is not a designated route, but rather an opportunity for you to tour the region and know you will be able to visit a number of unique farm providers.
MURRAY RIVER
Numurkah is known as the southern gateway to the Murray River.
The mighty Murray River is one of the world's longest navigable rivers, stretching 2,700 kilometres
The river is lined with magnificent forests of red gum and sandy beaches in its lower reaches and is home to plentiful wildlife, supporting over 350 varieties of birds, as well as many species of mammals, reptiles and fish.

WHY LEAVE TOWN?
The Why Leave Town Numurkah gift card allows the card holder to buy goods in any participating store. This means that every time a card is purchased, the money stays local.
